Festival of Trees

Bakewell Parish Church
Huge thanks to everyone who made the Festival of Trees such a great success!
The 80 Christmas trees, contributed and decorated by a wide variety of groups and organisations in Bakewell and beyond, made for a truly spectacular display in the church.
Large numbers of people came to share in our worship during the festival - the opening carol service with the Bishop of Derby and Lord Edward Manners, a toy service hosted by St Nicholas himself, a Taizé service, and a final service of thanksgiving. The church was also packed out for a series of wonderful concerts - by the Sheffield Folk Chorale, by the High Peak Wind Band, and by young people from the town, as well as to join in a sing-along Messiah. Many hundreds of visitors came to the church just to look at the trees, too.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved! We look forward to doing it all again soon ...
Children in Need

Congratulations and many thanks to all those who took part in the street collection for Children in Need.
In all, we collected a total of £482.08 - very well done!
Psalmfest
Saturday 24 October
Bakewell Parish Church
The Revd John Paul Hoskins, together with Jeremy Dawson and James Rees, successfully managed to sing all 150 psalms in a single day. Lots of people came along and enjoyed listening to the plainsong being chanted. It took about eight hours altogether to complete the entire psalter, but their voices just about held out. Sponsorship of the day has raised around £2500 for the Bakewell Parish Church kitchen project.
JP said afterwards: 'Our throats were a bit sore, and we were tired from concentrating so hard all day, but we're absolutely delighted to have raised so much money for the church kitchen. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us - we couldn't have done it without you!'
